Ghayth Mattouk Design Studio
Where Japan meets Italy: design featuring Japanese-inspired aesthetics, bold 1970s Italian. Dubai-based architect and interior designer Ghayth Maatouk is redefining contemporary interiors. His studio’s work blends refined minimalism with warmth and character, crafting spaces that are both functional and emotionally resonant.
His home is a inspiring. “Loved designing this wall unit — a modern rhythm of square forms, inspired by a beautiful mid-century Japanese bookcase I once came across.”
For his bedroom, he choose a special wallpaper. “Evoking the artwork of Imperial Japan, Namban is an abstract seascape, representing the country’s early commercial contact with Europeans, exquisitely illustrated in a 3-dimensional gold leaf pattern which is then tarnished and burnished to create the impression of light breaking through clouds onto waves below. A flock of soaring Cranes spans the composition: a motif seen frequently in the Art Deco era. The design references the work of Jean Dunand with its interplay of swirling coils and graphic lines.”
And all the small details “every piece on this back table holds a memory. Collected along the way from places that left a mark on me—each object brings back a story, a moment, a feeling. Together, they layer the space with meaning, far beyond just decor.”
