Fusing aspects of intangible Emirati heritage into contemporary design objects and using the space or the immediate environment within which she is working to tell a story, Alya AlEghfeli’s interiors, installations and products always begin with a narrative.
Between the forms of modernism and the charm of desert resorts lies a modernist oasis which combines the sleek shapes of modern architecture and the tranquility of desert getaways. Midkhan (Incense burner), 2021 Beige travertine, solid wood, stainless steel was born.
The manufacturing process included many tests for the wood, travertine and metal in order to create a product which doesn’t heat up, allows for air circulation and still fits in ones hand comfortably.
The Midkhan (incense burner) draws inspiration from this modernist oasis in its sleek lines, clean curves and unexpected details.”
