As a country sitting in the desert, the UAE grapples with constant water resource and security challenges. Desalination plants currently supply 42 percent of the country’s drinking water. This situation might change with the latest settlement of a new showroom in Dubai by the Swedish water tech company WAYOUT. It is bringing a sustainable solution to the region’s water woes through innovative water reuse technology.
The company’s new showroom demonstrates how its clean technology and water production system, including smart pod, kegs, and taps function, are important for markets of the UAE and wider GCC and Levant.

With substantial economic growth, population growth, and development in all sectors (education, infrastructure, urban development, etc.), the UAE launched its ‘UAE Water Security Strategy 2036’ program in 2017 to ensure universal access to safe drinking water. So what exactly does this Swedish water tech company bring to the table for the region?
WAYOUT’s water system converts any type of source water—seawater, waste water, borehole water, etc.—into perfect drinking water. It is developed to increase drinking water safety by improving drinking water quality, availability, accessibility, affordability, sustainability, and ethicality. In addition, the full cycle of water purification, distribution, and dispensation is developed to reduce the use of plastic bottles and the overall carbon footprint.
Through a series of filtration technologies, all salts and impurities are removed (including microplastics, PFAS and pharma residue), and all minerals essential to human wellness are added by natural processes. The water is distributed in food-grade stainless steel kegs that are sterilized and refilled at the water production pod. The kegs are sealed and completely tamper-proof. The filled water kegs have a minimum shelf life of three years, and the system is built to last for well over 40 years.
A single WAYOUT system produces up to 18,000 liters of mineral water daily—enough to provide 9,000 people with daily drinking water needs while simultaneously preventing up to 13 million plastic bottles and 1,400 tons of CO₂ from entering the ecosystem yearly. If that doesn’t sound impressive enough, just think about there being 66 times more plastic bottles than people in the world.
The water production pods are autonomous and can be operated off-grid using renewable energy, which makes them completely integrated plug-and-play systems that are fully automated. And since it is easy to operate a WAYOUT system, it will help create more jobs locally as part of its sustainable approach.
